ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a multicultural artist/designer/illustrator born in Thailand and now active in Japan. I am also the cheerleader (founder) of a small non-profit art community, ArtGumiDAO. I live to inspire the world to become more positive and kind through my art.
I believe that when our hearts are positively soften, we tend to lower our guards, open up to kindness, and become more acceptant of each other. My strategy in art is not to make people feel in awe with the greatness of art or artist, but to create POPTIMISTIC KAWAII pieces which aim to make the audience feel the spark of “heart throb” through experiencing the art over time.
With my background in architectural / industrial / product / graphic / interactive designs, my approach to creating artworks are more of the design process than the practice of fine artist. I normally take 60% of the time to do research and analysis, then another 40% to create the piece which communicates with the audience. To achieve the purpose, I constantly observe and explore the cause and effect of human psychology through new technologies and mediums. Sometimes the process can be very experimental and improvisational that the result may shifted from what I originally planned. But I always take them as good surprises, good leaning, good journey.
Before turning digital artist, I commercially worked as a doll artist, a watercolour/acrylic painter, a children’s book writer, an illustrator, and a designer. My previous works ranges from packaging designs, mural painting and interior designs for cafes, illustration for kindergarten bus and more.
Learning about new technologies makes me become fascinated with how they have strong effects on human minds, behaviours, social protocols, and cultures. This results in my attempts to create artworks which blur the line between art & tech. My recent personal art projects include, QR Code art, AR art, interactive and generative art with TouchDesigner, experiments with Raspberry Pi and hardware art, robot making, and more.
I believe that art will always evolve with technology. As an artist, I constantly learn, explore, and experiment with new things to open up my worldview and enhance my creativity. I am gradually expanding my range from traditional art to digital art, interactive art, coding, and hardware art fields. As a result, what I do might not appear to be the kind of "art" that people are familiar with. One day, I might come close to the edge where my creations cannot be clearly defined by the old worldview and traditional standards. But as long as I keep on creating, my art will keep evolving with the world. Regardless how myself and my art may be remembered, on one fine day, if those who have ever experienced my art could recall their positive memories associated with it and feel fluffy with their hearts ready to open up, then I have achieved my purpose of my life as an artist.
